1st Annual Children’s Book Drive

Our Council, in partnership with Stanislaus READS! and Love Our Cities will be helping to collect new and gently used children’s books.

We will do this by distributing collections boxes to various businesses AND canvasing neighborhoods with door hangers just prior to the official collection day of April 23rd (to coincide with Love Modesto).

All collected books will be brought to the Modesto Scout Service Center on Saturday, April 23rd where we will consolidate and do a final count—our goal being 10,000 books — and then, we’ll CELEBRATE!!

HERE’S HOW YOUR UNIT CAN GET INVOLVED…

1. Identify your target audience

              a.           Neighborhoods

              b.          Businesses (arrange to put a box in a public location)

              c.           Family members

2. “Register” your territory and request door hangers and collection boxes

• Click "Register" at the bottom of the page
• One key person registers for the entire unit

3. During the week prior to April 23rd distribute the Door Hangers in your designated neighborhoods and arrange to pick up the overflowing boxes

4. The morning of April 23rd

a. Gather at Love Modesto rally (8am, 10th and I Streets)

b. Disburse and go collect books from neighborhoods

c. Bring ALL books collected to Modesto Council Office

d. CELEBRATE WITH OTHER UNITS

5. The Council will take all books collected and transport them to another organization designated to sort, classify and distribute the books to health clinics, family resource centers and schools so they can be gotten into the hands of families with young children!

GOAL:  10,000 BOOKS!!!
