Troop 451 Court of Honor Recognizes Eagle Scouts
Troop 451, sponsored by the Turlock First United Methodist Men,recently held a Court of Honor and invited fellow Eagle Scouts of the troop to attend.

County Sheriff Performs Pack Uniform Inspection
Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson was a guest at a recent Pack Meeting for Pack 45 of Waterford.  He performed a uniform inspection and presented all Cub Scouts with a pin.
 
 

 
El Capitan District Units Collect Scouting for Food
and Prepare Gifts for Overseas Troops 
 
Pack 45, Troop 45 and Crew 451 collected 1,817 cans, and some jackets on Saturday from Waterford and Hickman.  Pack 45 also collected items to send to our troops overseas and folded 300 pocket flags with messages of good wishes to them that morning.
 
 
   
 
First Annual Hughson - Waterford Friends of Scouting Luncheon
 
The communities of Hughson and Waterford held their first FOS Luncheon on November 15th.  Event Chair Marty Watson received help from committee members Clint Armes, Mark Harman, Kari Johnson, MIke Petersen, Kathy Self and Art Tomlinson.  All in attendance enjoyed a delicious tri-tip and chicken luncheon.  Speakers included Jacob Moore, Eagle Scout with Troop 27 and Vida Blue, former pitcher with the Oakland A's and San Francisco Giants. 
 
     
     
 
West Side Holds Second Annual Friends of Scouting Barbecue
 
The second annual West Side FOS Barbecue took place on September 7th at the Masonic Lodge.  The event was chaired by Ron Swift with Bryan Bingham, Kenny Buehner, Lori Buehner, Deanne Jordan, Robert Kimball, Kelley Lehr, Dennis McCord and Donald Sonnefeld serving on the committee.

 District Hosts Second Annual Turlock Luncheon

El Capitan District held its Second Annual Friends of Scouting Luncheon on March 28th.  The event, held at the Turf Club, was chaired by Mike Gemperle with committee members Cliff Bailey, Tim Bughi, Kris Hyer, Matt Thompson and Marty Watson.  Bill Gibbs served as emcee.  Featured speakers were Eagle Scouts Travis Bughi and John Armes, and Silver Venturing Award recipient Natalie Rocheleau.  District Chairman Tim Bughi reported on Scouting within the district and Scout Executive Bob Dees provided a council update.  Luis Jimenez, Scoutreach Executive provided the audience a report on Soccer and Scouting’s success in the district.

Smith Chevrolet Hosts Its First Annual

District Pinewood Derby Race

 

On Saturday, March 25th twenty-four Cub Scouts, representing the packs in El Capitan District competed in a Pinewood Derby race at Smith Chevrolet in Turlock.  These Cub Scouts, who had already won either first or second place for speed in their pack’s Pinewood Derby vied for top honors district-wide.  Huff Construction provided its aluminum six-lane electronic track for this event.  District Program Chair Lynette Day and event host Larry Smith collaborated to provide an outstanding event for the participating Cubs and their families.  Both are already planning an even bigger and better event for next year.  Trophies were presented to third place finisher Noah Stoffel; second place finisher Trey Howze and first place went to Daniel Stoffel.  Congratulations to all participants who represented their packs at this race.
 
 

 

God & Country Religious Awards

 

Sixteen Cub Scouts from Pack 451 were recently presented their God & Me and God & Family religious awards at the Turlock First United Methodist Church.  Pastor Dave Thompson conducted a special service of recognition as Joann Quinley, God & Country Counselor, presented the Cubs their medallions.  Cubmaster, Art Doucette, presented the certificates.   Pack 451 meets at the First United Methodist Church and is sponsored by United Methodist Men.   Pictured front row left to right:  Dakota Spillers, Trevor Speckman, Teddy Snyder, Ian Sather, Tyler Reeder, Patrick Luiz, Mason Synder, Cory Paris.  Back row left to right:  Daniel Stevens, Kyle Smith, Ryan Sather, Daniel Terry, Ryan Burns, James Schnebly, Sebastian Acosta.

 

 

God & Country Religious Awards Presented

 

Six Boy Scouts from Troop 451 and one Girl Scout from Troop 399 were recently presented their God & Church religious awards at the Turlock First United Methodist Church.  Pastor Dave Thompson conducted a special service of recognition as Joann Quinley, God & Country Counselor, presented the Scouts their medallions.  Scoutmaster, Dr. Doug Marks presented the certificates to the Boy Scouts and Girl Scout Leader, Nancy Backlund presented the Girl Scout certificate.  Ms. Quinley said “These Scouts have worked hard for six months to complete the requirements for the God & Church program.”  Their mission project was the purchase of ten Church World Service blankets.  In addition, each Scout had numerous community and church service hours.
